Ashish Shelar – How He Flared In Politics

Born in 1972, Ashish Shelar represents the Vidhan Sabha constituency as a member of the renowned political party, the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He has been active in politics for years, and his rise comes from his involvement with different public matters. One of the incidents that created a great controversy took place in September 2015, where he banned the sale of meat for eight days during the celebration of their cultural event in Parushana – the Jain Festival. As a country that is one of the biggest exporters of beef in the world, this did not sit well with many meat sellers. Ultimately the decision leads to many disputes and chaos.

Ashish has led his political career on his beliefs and with the support of his followers. He has been someone who has not been shy of table talks nor afraid of taking the protests to the streets. His reputation is of an intelligent, energetic leader who never backs down from a struggle. One of his efforts was against the rise in Metro railway fares that was a matter of public interest. He highlighted inconsistencies in the E-governance initiative of BMC and moved optimistic alterations in BMC. He remains one of the famous and prominent figures in his party.
