Flexible solar panels are normally thin than the usual panels because they are made by layering a number of thin photovoltaic material on a base that’s made from metal, glass or plastic substrate. The way they are made makes them thinner such that the roof that they should be placed on does not require racks.
Flexible panels can be used on different occasions such as;
During long road trips since one cannot carry a generator because it makes a lot o noise when power is needed. Another way that solar panels can be used is during fishing or boat trips, this is mainly because fish can be lured away by the noise that is made by a generator when it’s on.
They can also be used when camping to help provide sufficient light at night especially when inside the tent. Another advantage of carrying flexible panels when camping it’s because they can be folded and stored easily.
Flexible panels are of two types and they include:
Sparkling silicon panels
These are the commonly used and they are made by cutting thick pieces of silicon from a block, which later become flexible while still holding their photovoltaic properties. They are then connected together to make the panel.
Thin film panels.
These panels are more flexible and they can be placed on different types of materials like glass, fabrics and also metal. They are usually highly flexible and small and usually easy to carry around.
There are several benefits of using these kind of panels and they are such as: they are environment friendly, they are light in weight making them easy to carry around, they are affordable, and also their flexibility makes them multi-functional
Before buying a flexible panel, there are several things that someone should consider and they include:
Durability
This involves checking the material that’s used to make the panel, when plastic is used its normally provides proper protection to the PV cells against dust and deterioration. They should also be water resistant and mostly for those that used in fishing or boat trips.
Power
This is the most important thing to check when buying solar panel, and power is usually checked in terms of wattage. When the panel has more wattage, it means that it can support more devices for along amount of time.
Flexible solar panels are usually pocket friendly because one does not need a technical to fix them, one can simply fix it by themselves by just using Velcro or adhesive.
