Preamble
When building any man-made structure, measured spaces are left in the wall to serve as windows. The windows act as air and natural light inlets. With that, people have sort out solutions for windows to carry on with the roles without compromising one’s privacy or security; thus coming up with the idea of materials that will act as an obstruction known as window blinds. Window blinds are typically made of slats from material such as wood, metal or plastic which are held together by cords.
Wooden blinds rather known as timber Venetian blinds have been a timeless window accessory dating back way before the 1700s. Though the exact origin is not known precisely, reed slats in Egypt and bamboo slats in Asia are believed to be an antecedent of the present day Timber Blinds. With the growing patent popularity, St. Peter’s Church in Philadelphia was fitted with blinds in 1761. The Venetian blinds were later on widely adopted in office buildings and residential places.
Timber blinds installation
Installing blinds can be a do it yourself job or one can opt for a professional to carry out the installation. Before one installs the blinds, there are several factors that should be put into consideration. Such factors include:
Choosing the material for the blinds. This may be influenced by the type of room in which the Timber Blinds are to be installed.
Considering the color of the room. This will help determine the color and type of blinds to install.
Determining the size of blinds needed.
Choosing the style of blinds. This may range from cordless to round or squire cornered blinds.
Installing blinds can be done in three ways:
Inside mount
As the name suggests, both the blind slats and mounting brackets are inside the window frame with the mounting brackets fixed at the top of the window frame.
Outside mount
The blinds and mounting bracket are outside the frame with the slats overlapping it and the mounting bracket on the wall above the frame.
Ceiling mount
The mounting bracket is installed at the ceiling above the window as the blinds overlap the frame.
Timber blinds maintenance
With good maintenance, the blinds will always look new and classy. One can maintain the blinds through:
Dusting with a microfiber cloth or feather dust.
Replacing the broken slats.
Restoring timber Venetian blinds that have been damaged, discolored or faded from water or high sun exposure.
