Special Mobile Units: Mobile units are used in many different fields across the globe and many are in what is known as a specialty field.
They come in different sizes, designs, and mobility levels, all related to what use and specialty fields it falls under.
I would like to mention 3 medical Special Mobile Units that are used daily.
- 1: THE RESPONSE VEHICLE: Under one of these categories we have two types of response vehicles that are medical response vehicles for any medical emergency from everyday medical emergencies to disaster management like airplane crashes.
These two are linked to the fire department and are:
- THE AMBULANCE: this is your average unit that specializes in medical emergencies whether it is a minor injury, an asthma attack to as heavy as gunshots, stab wounds, and even heart attacks and strokes.
They respond mostly to incoming calls from the family of the patient and or the police department.
They are backed up for any disaster by the……
- THE MEDICAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT RESPONSE VEHICLE: this unit responses to all disasters from your pile-up accidents on freeways to airplane crashes and they usually carry more mechanical equipment than medical as they work in tandem with the ambulance.
As the jaws of life and the sturdy and strong airbag used for lifting heavy objects off patients when inflated.
- 2: THE MOBILE CLINIC: this unit operates mostly in rural and or poor areas and moves from one area to another daily depending on the needs, not the community, and comes usually in the form of a converted bus or heavy-duty truck into a one or two-roomed clinic.
They will have aboard all necessary computer equipment for admin purposes, all medical equipment for the nurse and doctor to do all diagnoses and medications for any patient seen on that day.
They usually work in tandem with the……
- 3: THE MOBILE THEATRE: this specialty unit will usually follow the mobile clinic a day or two later, and just like them is a converted bus or trailer attached to a truck that has enough space for the doctor’s consulting area and a small theatre for small procedures usually done under local anesthetics like dental procedures, ophthalmology procedures, and minor procedures.
They are fully equipped with all necessary admin, medical and surgical equipment needed to run a smooth theatre daily and will follow the mobile unit as per appointments made in the rural and poorer areas.
