The current BJP Youth Leader is Poonam Mahajan alias Poonam Vajendla Rao.
She was born 9 December 1980 in Bombay (now Mumbai) to parents Rekha Mahajan and veteran BJP leader, the late Pramod Mahajan with an older sibling Rahul Mahajan.
She is president for the BJYM (the youth league of the BJM) since December 2016 as a serving BJM member and a politician in the Indian parliament in Lok Sabha from Mumbai North Central, constituency, Maharashtra.
She was the first female to hold the position of President of the Basketball Federation of India, and currently is the Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Animal Welfare Board and one of the only members of parliament on the CM of Maharashtra’s War Room.
All this and only started in politics in 2006!
Her political highlights are:
• After her fathers, death in 2006 became the primary member of the BJP at an early age of 26
• Became General Secretary for Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Maharashtra unit. By April the following year
• In 2009 lost her first Assembly Elections from Ghatkopar against Ram Kadam of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena
• In 2010 was appointed the National Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha
• 2013 with the ambition to strengthen the BJP she was appointed National Secretary of the BJP
• Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North Central in 2014 gave her the ticket, which was the stronghold of the congress
• As the first person to win the seat for the BJP since independence narrowly against the incumbent two-time MP Priya Dutt by a margin of 1.86 lakh votes
• In 2016 she took the BJP organization further into the hearts and eyes of the youth and their voice as the National President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM)
• In 2019 she not only won but quite comfortably as well the ticket to contest from Mumbai North Central, against her opponent Priya Dutt by a margin of 1.30 lakh votes
Her non-political highlights are:
• As an avid animal lover has worked and contributed to all animal rights and welfare issues, as well as environmental protection and conservation globally but mainly in India
• With the support of PM Shri Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission, she co-founded a youth-driven non-profit organization Mumbai Youth Forum which gives the youth a voice by creating a platform that promotes democratic inclusion and values direct from the BJP Youth Leader to the elected policymakers
• Played a key role in creating the GCFI (global citizen festival India) and EPI (elephant parade India)
