The Need For Blue Light Eyewear

Our vision is one of our most important assets. We need it to take care of it so that we can go through our daily lives and complete our work tasks with ease. Part of this care could be the use of blue light eyewear to filter out unwanted elements from our surroundings. Blue light is part of the visible spectrum with a much shorter wavelength than red light. This has its own characteristics aside from color that people should be wary about. Health and wellness can be affected due to constant exposure. Glasses that contain a filter can regulate the amount that reaches our eyes so we don’t have to suffer from the ill effects.

Eye Strain

The problem stems from our modern world and how we interact with it. Nearly everyone owns several electronic devices with screens that emit blue light. We stare at our computer monitors the whole day at work while we browse the web, finish reports, write code, create designs, edit videos, and so on. We also spend a large amount of time using our cellphones to communicate with other people through SMS, chat, and social media. All of these put a huge strain on our eyes. We should take a break every now and then to rest them. Try to close your eyes even for a minute or look out the window to a far off point, ideally some greeneries. Wear blue light glasses while working.

Visual Degeneration

This is the gradual breakdown of the retina as we age. Although this will affect a large number of people, the degree to which it occurs will vary tremendously depending on each individual. The part of the retina called the macula is responsible for having a sharp vision. If this deteriorates, the center will start to blur in a gradual manner. It may also cause sudden vision loss in one side but this is rare. Impaired vision will make it much harder to drive a car, read books, or even recognize faces. One of the lifestyle factors that increase the risk of macular degeneration is constant exposure to blue light.

Biological Rhythm

It should be noted that this type of light is not always bad. Sometimes we need it to regulate our biological rhythm. Exposure tends to keep us awake and energized. Having it around during the day is a good thing in the right doses. Nighttime exposure is not as good as we are supposed to wind things down and get some sleep but our bodies will not let us get sleepy. This is why people are advised to refrained from using their computer or smartphone during the night. If you really have to, then wear the appropriate glasses.
