When I watched the movie 12 Cameras I didn’t need a second viewing to grasp the full extent of digital surveillance. Soon afterwards as I lay on my bed smoking a cigarette, I was struck by a hard hitting realization that our lives are not as private as we think. Of course, when the government first announced that it would be encroaching on the right to privacy to an extent justified by the purpose of bolstering state security, there was immediate uproar. At the time it felt like the final death knell had been pronounced on individual privacy, never to be seen again, literally. However, with the commercialization of CCTV cameras and spy camera technology, it now seems like government surveillance wasn’t so bad. In the wrong hands, a spy camera can be extremely intrusive, and that’s not even worst part. But besides the ethics of it all, why would one really need one?
Protecting your Business
Employees steal from their employees more often than you think, and most of the time it happens unnoticed, until of course, someone makes a mistake. So instead of waiting on a careless rookie mistake and an employee to drop the ball, why not install a few spy cameras on your premises and catch the thief in the act. Always bear in mind that CCTV cameras are positioned in areas that -with a little street ingenuity- can be avoided by a thief who is a pro when it comes to covering up his tracks. One tip: don’t be quick to blow the lid. One culprit is not enough if you can uncover an entire syndicate.
Acquire Crucial Trial Evidence
It may be that you are in the middle of a trial -civil or criminal- and all you need to secure a verdict in your favour is proof of some act or omission. What better way to do this than by having a spy camera on your person –or someone else- when a confession is made. Oral or visual evidence may be all that it takes to secure a conviction, but at times it can prove to be impossible without a little espionage. However, a court will normally weigh the infringement of a person’s right to privacy against the purpose or aim that you sought to achieve by intruding.
Last but not least, spy cameras can be useful for non-intrusive purposes.
